SHIMLA MIRCH- RAKUL PREET SINGH, RAJKUMMAR RAO, HEMA MALINI
The story is about a mother and her daughter who falls in love with the same guy. However, in the end, they came to know what was what which wants to laugh at that is not funny at all…
Avi (Rajkummar Rao) is a type of guy who is shy towards girls. He is always mocked by his family members. Especially his aunt always mocks him to ‘have some balls’ (courage). He goes on a 22nd vacation with his family to a hill station SHIMLA. While holidaying in Shimla, he falls for a girl Naina (Rakul Preet Singh). She resides in Shimla as a cafe owner. Avi thought that she is the one for him.
Instead of confessing his love to Naina, he joins at her cafe as a handyman, to be around her. He slowly starts solving all of her problems. On a fine day, he wants to express his feelings towards by asking her to out. But he is very shy towards girls and does not dare to propose her directly.
Rukmini (Hema Malini)
Naina’s mother was abandoned by his husband (Kanwaljeet) for another woman. He was in a living-in relationship with a 27-year-old girl. Naina is always worried about her mother and is trying her best to get her to sign the divorce papers and move on from her heartless dad. That’s when Avi came into the picture.
Since Avi does not dare to propose Naina on the face, his friend advises him to write a love letter. So he writes an anonymous love letter to express his feelings towards Naina by signing it off as a secret admirer. This letter makes things take a crazy turn.
Naina(Rakul Preet Singh)
But Naina is not interested in her secret admirer. So she copies the contents of the letter and passes it to her mother who is already struggling with low self-esteem after her husband left them for another woman. Rukmini came to know that Avi is her secret admirer. She is flattered beyond believing that a much younger man is in love with her!!!
Talking about the film there are no surprises and a predictable climax. There are some scenes in the movie which makes us laugh at that are not meant to be funny at all.
The small and sweet romantic sets in Shimla makes the movie more beautiful. But the story fails to entertain you.
Hema Malini looks beautiful as ever. She steals the show. She hits the right spot of comic timing. Rakul Preet Singh is innocently charming and adorable. her character is overwritten she needs to over-perform to make her character include. Rajkummar Rao impresses everyone with his shyness while confessing is love towards Naina (Rakul Preet Singh). Shakti Kapoor one of the most admired actors of Bollywood play as the manager (Captain Uncle) of Naina’s (Rakul Preet Singh) cafe. Some parts of the film remind us of the magic of Ramesh Sippy.
Director Ramesh Sippy
It’s very upsetting to see Ramesh Sippy directing this kind of film. He has directed many films like SHOLAY, SEETA AUR GEETA, SHAAN, SAAGAR, ANDAZ, ZAMAANA DEEWANA. But Sholay is his best movie ever. Most of the action sequences in the film have created a buzz at that time. His last film was Zamaana Deewana. It was a disaster at the box office and since he has not directed any film as of 2015. Even, Hema Malini was elected to Lok Sabha, as the representative of Bharatiya Janata Party, at the time she signed for this film. But her fans are not satisfied with this movie…
The first half of Shimla Mirchi is a little long drama. The second half is a dull romedy with a predictable climax. There is no chemistry between the lead pair. However, the film has some interesting stuff but remains underexposed and the result is an uninspiring romedy. Although, the film has a very smooth way of storytelling and editing. The film stands no choice at the box office.
