2. Konark Sun Temple

Built in the 13th century, it is one of India’s most famous Brahman sanctuaries.

3. Charminar

Located in Hyderabad, Telangana.

Situated bang in the heart of the old city of Hyderabad, the Charminar (Urdu ‘Char’ meaning Four and ‘Minar’ meaning Tower) is one of the most recognized monuments in India. This structure has four minarets and is the architectural icon for the city of Hyderabad, equivalent to the likes of the Taj Mahal of Agra or the Eiffel Tower of Paris and is the most searched famous historical site in India on Google.

4. Ajanta Caves

Located in Maharashtra.

Astonishingly carved into hillside rock in the middle of nowhere are the Ajanta and Ellora caves. Both are an important UNESCO World Heritage site.

There are 34 caves at Ellora dating from between the 6th and 11th centuries AD, and 29 caves at Ajanta dating back to between the 2nd century BC and 6th century AD. The caves at Ajanta are all Buddhist, while the caves at Ellora are a mixture of Buddhist, Hindu, and Jain.

5. Victoria Memorial

Located in Kolkata, West Bengal.

The Victoria Memorial Hall was built in memory of Queen Victoria by the then Viceroy of India, Lord Curzon. The memorial celebrated the 25-year reign of the queen over India. She became the figurehead of India after the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857 and ruled till her death in 1901. Lord Curzon wanted to demonstrate his gratitude by dedicating a monument to her and the stunning Victoria Memorial of Kolkata was constructed.

6. Hawa Mahal

Located in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

Hawa Mahal, also known as “Palace of Breeze”, was built in 1799 as an extension to the Royal City Palace of Jaipur.tuated at Badi Choupad, Pink City of Jaipur, Hawa Mahal was built in 1799. It has 953 windows on the outside walls. The honeycomb-shaped and beautifully carved windows allow the breeze to blow through the palace and makes it a perfect summer palace. Qutub Minar is a minaret located in the Qutab complex. It is a heritage site located in Delhi. Qutub Minar is a tapering tower, which was designed similar to the Minaret of Jam located in Western Afghanistan. The first floor of the tower was built in the 12th century. The second, third and fourth floors were built in the 13th century and the last floor was completed in the 14th century. There were attempts to add the sixth storey to the tower, which failed. Jallianwala Bagh is a public garden in Amritsar, and houses a memorial of national importance, established in 1951 by the Government of India, to commemorate the massacre of peaceful celebrators including unarmed women and children by British occupying forces, on the occasion of the Punjabi New Year (Baisakhi) on 13 April 1919 in theJallianwala Bagh Massacre. Colonial British Raj sources identified 379 fatalities and estimated about 1100 wounded.
