Education is something which is not just important to get a job, but also to obtain a social standing in the world. It is an essential part of a child’s development. While we all wish we could just drop out of college and become the Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerbergs of the world, that is very unrealistic.

I believe that to survive in today’s world, it is very essential to have a good educational background to fall back on. Some subjects like mathematics and science are absolutely essential to develop some understanding of the world. Language is another such subject that is required to communicate appropriately in the adult world.

A child should be taught to fall in love with their books, and not make them a subject of hatred. Books are one of the most precious inventions gifted onto us humans, giving us the greatest jewel of all. A country’s education system should be solid enough to accommodate all kinds of students and understand the uniqueness of each individual. One of the fundamental rules to having a great start to learning is understanding that early enrolment into schools is always better to ensure maximum efficiency.

To initiate the early learning system, the government has started a new initiative called the “Padhe Bharat Badhe Bharat” which encourages the students to have a timely education, providing for all sections of the society.

This article will highlight the details of the above scheme and how it can benefit the country as a whole.

What is “Padhe Bharat Badhe Bharat”?

The Padhe Bharat Badhe Bharat is an initiative that falls under the larger Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan scheme which is aimed at providing timely education to the children of all classes. Studies have shown that learning to read or write at a later time, can have an adverse effect on the educational merits of the child. Reaching the appropriate developmental milestones has an essential role in making sure that the child thrives academically.

This initiative thus provides the children with sufficient material such as books and better programs for subjects such as science, mathematics, language for the first two grades. It includes distribution of content-rich books, training of teachers, improving school facilities and so one.

Funding

An aggregate amount of Rs 766 crores has been sanctioned for the states. To improve the existing programs, the union government has sanctioned a total of Rs 2352.57 crores.

Objectives of Padhe Bharat Badhe Bharat

  1. Create Keen and self-sufficient readers and writers out of children
  2. Help them have an age-appropriate knowledge set during their education
  3. Helps them attain comprehension skills that last forever
  4. Have a basic understanding of mathematical tools
  5. Create interest among them to aid better learning and writing
  6. Emphasize the importance of children’s literature
  7. Improvement of school facilities and teaching

Why the need for change?

The current curriculum, in my opinion, is so focused on completing a given amount of portion and obtaining marks as a measure of academic success that we forget the main goal- learning. As a result, the importance of overall development is subdued. An essential part of the child’s development is the learning of language to communicate with the world. With the primary focus of education on the prescribed school books, the development is narrowed down to solely these books.

It is essential to instill in the child a habit to refer to all kinds of material and understand concepts holistically. Right now, the trend in Indian children is to stick to the books they have been told to study from in order to get their marks.

The emphasis must be shifted from obtaining marks to the learning of concepts. High expectations of parents from their children also hinders learning. in order to ensure that a child receives the best education, the facilities of our country need to be amped up. The academic performance of a child is highly dependant on the development of the child in the early years. The first few grades are extremely crucial to ensure that the process becomes smoother here on and forth.

The teachers also have to be better-trained t understand their main professional goal shouldn’t be just to teach what has been told to them, but go beyond the books and explore a child’s limits. A teacher should be able to understand the needs of every individual student. For this intensive training is needed for each and every teacher.

The importance of age-appropriate development

We all wish to have our children be the ultimate prodigies who are able to remember all the elements of the periodic table in under 5 minutes, at the tender age of 5. But believe it or not, age-appropriate development is extremely important. Going too fast or too slow can have an effect on the social and professional lives in the future.

A child who is beyond their years usually has a higher IQ but also has a difficult time adjusting to their peers and suffers socially. While this isn’t true for everyone, it is quite common to see.

Similarly, a child to learns to read or write later in life can also face more difficulty adjusting to academic life. Learning to read or write at the appropriate age is very important to make sure that your child is well suited conceptually later on.

This initiative thus is more a very wise decision taken by the government to improve the quality of education in our country.

Besides providing age-appropriate learning, it also provokes curiosity amongst students and helps them go beyond the books. The use of audiovisual aids at school keeps young minds interested. All in all I think this is taking a step closer towards happy and healthy educated adults and a more advanced country.
